CD from the book called " Developing and assesing intercultural communicative competence"


  • The book called " Developing and assesing intercultural communicative competence" is a guide for language teachers and teacher educators.



  • It is an interesting resource for definitions and concepts such as culture, cultural awareness, process of acculturation, ICC ( Intercultural and Communication Competence). Also, there are others issues like materials or methods to be used in a classroom in order to develop intercultural competence.



  • The book talk about that ICC as broad key concept: conceptual framework of reference, assessing the three dimensions of ICC ( knowledge, know how, know being), methods and conclusions.



The CD-ROM tool is useful because included aspects that the book does not. For example: I could find out that in the CD there are some aspects as a paragraph called " Project info" where is involved " Central workshop report". On the other hand, also there is a headland called " Our researh project".





I would like to highlight what is "Project info". In the CD - ROM tool it said that 28 professionals from 28 different European countries. They created several workshop. Some of these works: " Intercultural Communication Competence in Greece" or "  Materials evaluation from an intercultural perspective".

After the first two workshop days of theorical introduction , the participants formed three networks in order to contiune the training , materials and so on. It vas three networks called:
  • Training
  • Teaching materials
  • Assessment


The last point talks about guidelines for the assessment Intercultural Communicative Competence. Important aspects as conceptual framework of reference, assessing three dimensions of ICC, and final conclusions.

So, once I said that, I have checked that either the book or the CD-ROM tool , they are a good and a useful material in order to guide language teachers in significants points.  I consider that the final aim is to create suitable atmosphere related to Intercultural and Communication Competence, where teacher and pupils will be working together in the best way of learning for them.
